East Rosemary Street will be closed from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on both January 26 and 27 due to a tree removal.
A release from the Town of Chapel Hill said officials recently determined a large tree at 507 East Rosemary Street is in poor health and needs to be removed.
Local traffic will be directed through the closure, which will run from North Boundary Street to Hillsborough Street.
The tree has been monitored by Chapel Hill staff and Bartlett Tree Service for years. Both entities agree that the tree’s health will not improve, making removal a necessary next step.
Any community members interested in honoring the tree can stop by for a public gathering at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19, according to the town government.
Social distancing and mask guidelines will be enforced at the gathering.
