GoTriangle is now offering free fare “on all of the agency’s routes” to federal employees impacted by the ongoing partial federal government shutdown.

The longest shutdown in US history is ongoing with no clear end in sight. And the transit authority’s Board of Trustees voted on Wednesday to offer the free rides to “federal employees required to work during the prolonged government shutdown.”

Officials across Orange County are working to have resources in place to continue as many operations as possible with local funding.

“This vote emphasizes the importance GoTriangle places on being a good neighbor and an important part of our community fabric,” GoTriangle president and CEO Jeff Mann said in a release. “Transportation costs can be an expensive part of a family budget, so we hope this gesture eases some of the burden for our friends who work for the federal government.”

Federal workers should show their government ID to bus operators when boarding to take advantage of the offer.
