North Carolina Department of Transportation contractors plan to replace Compton Road Bridge, closing the road between N.C. 86 and Carr Store Road north of Hillsborough.
Work will begin at 7 a.m. on Monday, February 22. The new bridge should be open by July 22.
Motorists will be directed around the work on a detour using N.C. 86 and Carr Store Road.
Built in 1962, the existing bridge is structurally deficient and no longer meets the demands of the traffic using it. It remains safe, but requires constant attention and needs to be replaced.
