As the bulk of the holiday season is now in the rearview mirror, Chapel Hill crews are now turning their attention to holiday clean-up efforts.
Chapel Hill single-family residences can dispose of trees and wreaths from the holidays by placing them alongside other yard waste. Those on a Monday trash collection schedule have yard waste collected on Thursday and those who have trash collected on Tuesday have yard waste collected on Friday.
Residents of apartment complexes are encouraged to contact their property manager for instructions on where to place trees for disposal.
Before removing the trees and wreaths from homes, residents should remove all decorations, tinsel and wire, according to the town.
Chief of the Chapel Hill Fire Department Matthew Sullivan said it is important to safely dispose of holiday decorations and to inspect wiring and items before being packed away for next year in an attempt to cut down on fire risk.
