Racking up a score of $20,001 last night, Carrboro’s own Kathryn Peters is the current champion of “Jeopardy!” — and she’ll be appearing once again tonight to defend her title.
In Monday night’s episode of the long-running game show, guest hosted by Dr. Oz. as part of a series of interim presenters, Peters took a commanding lead in the Double Jeopardy round before correctly answering a Final Jeopardy question relating Shakespearean plays and UK labor strife to close out the competition thousands of dollars ahead.

Peters is the executive director of UNC’s Center for Information, Technology and Public Life, and a resident of Carrboro. As the inaugural director for UNC’s CITAP, she describes her work as supporting “a collaborative, multidisciplinary team of academics working to understand how our civic and digital lives intersect,” according to her professional social media.
In addition, Peters added that she plans to donate part of her winnings to organizations devoted to voting work and encouraged her followers to participate as well.
Hello, #Jeopardy friends! Day 2!
I continue to pledge part of my winnings to voting work.
So far, I've committed:
