The Chatham County Board of Commissioners officially has a new member: former Chatham County Schools superintendent Robert Logan.
Board members voted unanimously to appoint Logan to the board as an interim commissioner at their meeting on Monday. He takes over for Jim Crawford, who stepped down at the end of December. The seat represents District 4, which covers northwest Chatham County.
Logan will fill Crawford’s seat until the term expires at the end of this year. Voters will elect a new board member to a full four-year term in November.
Robert Logan is a familiar face in Chatham County: in addition to his work with the school district, he’s also been a trustee at Central Carolina Community College and served on the board of directors for the Chatham County United Way and the Chatham Economic Development Corporation. He currently serves as Eastern Region Senior Director for the national nonprofit Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID).
“My fellow commissioners and I are thrilled to welcome Robert to the Board, and we are grateful that he stepped forward to serve in this important role as Chatham County continues to grow and evolve,” said Chatham County Board of Commissioners Chair Karen Howard. “We look forward to working with Robert as he brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion which will serve our Board and community well.”
Commissioners’ vote affirmed an earlier endorsement by the Chatham County Democratic Party, which selected Logan after interviewing all the applicants for the open seat.
While Chatham County already recognizes Logan as a county commissioner, there will also be a ceremonial swearing-in ceremony for him at the next board meeting on February 21.
