Orange County Animal Services announced a new fundraiser and partnership with a Cary marketing company to help raise necessary funds to treat more than 75 dogs housed at its facility.

The department shared a release launching its ‘Rescued Bulldogs Care’ GoFundMe with MicroMass Communications on Wednesday. The fundraiser is to help ensure the proper resources to care for animals rescued from an animal cruelty case in late 2019. Orange County Animal Services took in the dogs, which were seized from two Orange County properties in an apparent breeding operation. But after three months, the department says the extra rooming, boarding and veterinary care of the dogs, which are mostly of the bulldog or mastiff varieties, has strained its resources.

The dogs are unavailable to be adopted as the son and mother pair continue through the legal process. Animal Services said the department has received hundreds of inquiries about the dogs’ availability and do not have the capacity to maintain a wait list for potential owners.

Bob Marotto, the director of Orange County Animal Services, said the department will provide ample public notice of the re-homing process once the legal process is finalized.

“We are grateful to the public for their patience and understanding as we work to care for these animals and prepare for their re-homing,” said Marotto. “We are so fortunate to have a community that truly cares about animals and their protection. Community support is what makes a large scale rescue operation of this kind possible.”

The ‘Rescued Bulldogs Care’ GoFundMe’s goal is to raise $10,000.
