There’s a lot on the agenda for Orange County government this week, but the highest-profile issue may actually be in Pittsboro, where the town board is set to vote on an ordinance creating a “social district” for alcoholic beverages downtown. Orange County officials have their own big issues to address this week too, though: Hillsborough will discuss development around the future train station, Chapel Hill will consider a major housing proposal, Carrboro will get an update on its new comprehensive plan, and Orange County Commissioners will meet with the school boards to hear their budget concerns.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Orange County
The Hillsborough Board of Commissioners kicks off the week with a work session at 7 p.m. Monday, September 25. The board will receive a presentation on transit-oriented development around the future Hillsborough train station, and a presentation on the challenges related to development and infrastructure coordination. Orange County Commissioners will meet jointly with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro and Orange County School Boards Tuesday, September 26, at 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building in Hillsborough. Commissioners will hear from the school boards on capital needs, as well as the districts’ financial concerns related to the new state budget and the threat of a federal government shutdown. In addition to that joint gathering, the Orange County School Board has its own meeting on Monday, September 25: board members will gather in the Whitted Building at 7 p.m. for a work session on topics ranging from end-of-year test results to school redistricting to this year’s capital budget plan. The Carrboro Town Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 26.
