Local elected boards are still ramping up as we get into autumn, but this week’s agendas still feature several key items. In Carrboro, the Town Council will revisit a proposal to close East Weaver Street to vehicles and turn the block into a pedestrian mall; in Hillsborough, Orange County Commissioners will consider broadband Internet service; the Chapel Hill Town Council will weigh plans for a nine-story housing development on MLK Boulevard; and officials in Durham will hear plans for a “Durham-To-Roxboro” trail along an inactive rail line.

Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.

Orange County

The Carrboro Town Council meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 7. Council members will get an update on a proposal to turn East Weaver Street into a bike-and-pedestrian mall, and consider extending a permit for the Lloyd Farm development on Old Fayetteville road. Get the full agenda at this link.

Orange County Commissioners also meet Tuesday, October 7, at 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building in Hillsborough. Click here for the agenda, which includes a discussion of the county’s Broadband Task Force and a public hearing on a proposal for a housing subdivision off Route 54 in Bingham Township near White Cross.

The Chapel Hill Town Council meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 8. Council members will get a report on affordable housing and consider an application for a 9-story development with up to 200 housing units at 701 MLK Boulevard just north of downtown. Click here for a link to the full agenda.

Chatham and Durham Counties

The Chatham County School Board meets at 6:00 p.m. Monday, October 6. Click here for the full agenda, which includes a discussion of proposed capital improvement projects through the year 2033.

The Durham City Council meets twice this week, at 7 p.m. Monday, October 6 and again at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 9. Click here for links to both agendas, which include a set of discussions on Thursday about trails on converted rail lines.

Durham County Commissioners meet at 9 a.m. Monday, October 6. Commissioners will get an update from the county’s Public Defender office; they’ll receive early information about next year’s budget; and they’ll hear a presentation about plans for an 18-mile “Durham-To-Roxboro” trail that would be built along an inactive rail line.
