This week in local government: Orange County Commissioners will likely move forward on plans to put a school bond referendum on the ballot this fall; Chatham County Commissioners and the Durham City Council will get their respective budget proposals for the next fiscal year; and the Orange County School Board will discuss possible redistricting for 2025.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Orange County
Orange County Commissioners meet Tuesday, May 7, at 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building in Hillsborough. Commissioners will hear from the public on capital investment funding; they’ll take the next step on plans to put a $300 million school bond referendum on the November ballot; and they’ll vote to approve a multimodal corridor study for Route 70. The Carrboro Town Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, with a light agenda that includes a report on the implementation of the “Carrboro Connects” comprehensive plan. Click here for a link to the full agenda.
The Chapel Hill Town Council is scheduled to meet for a work session at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 8. The agenda has not been published, but will be available at this link.
And the Orange County School Board meets Monday, May 6, at 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building. Tops on the agenda: board members will consider a plan for school redistricting, which would take effect in the 2025-26 school year. Get the full agenda here.
Chatham and Durham Counties
Chatham County Commissioners meet Monday, May 6 – beginning with a 2 p.m. work session and continuing with a regular meeting at 6:00, with an agenda that includes a presentation on next year’s proposed budget. Click here for a link to the full agenda.
Durham County Commissioners also meet Monday, May 6, beginning at 9 a.m. Tops on their agenda: commissioners will get an update on the use of $62 million in federal COVID relief funds. Get the full agenda here.
The Durham City Council meets twice this week, at 7 p.m. Monday, May 6 and then again at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 9. Monday’s agenda includes a discussion of next year’s stormwater rates; Thursday’s work session includes a presentation on the proposed budget and five-year capital improvement plan for the city.
