It’s the first week of the month, which means many elected boards take a break from their regular meeting schedule. But this week is still a busy one in local government — particularly in Hillsborough, where Orange County Manager Bonnie Hammersley is set to unveil her budget plan for the next fiscal year.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Orange County
County Manager Bonnie Hammersley will present her budget recommendation when the Orange County Board of Commissioners meets on Tuesday, May 2, at 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building. Click here for the full meeting agenda.
The Carrboro Town Council also meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 2. Council members will get an annual update from the Orange County Partnership to End Homelessness, and they’ll consider revising the town’s tagline from “Feel Free” to “Feel Free To Be.” Click here for a link to the full agenda.
And the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools board meets Thursday, May 4, at 6 p.m. in the Lincoln Center. This week’s primary agenda item is a work session on how to better set board priorities and develop future agendas. Get the full agenda at this link.
Chatham and Durham Counties
The Durham City Council meets twice this week, first at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 1, then at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 4. Monday’s meeting includes a public hearing and a vote on the city’s annual action plan for community development; Thursday’s meeting will feature an extended discussion of affordable housing. (Thursday’s meeting was originally going to include a presentation of the city manager’s budget plan, but that will occur on May 15 instead.) Click here for links to both agendas.
Durham County Commissioners also meet on Monday, May 1, beginning at 9 a.m. Their agenda includes an extended discussion of affordable housing, an update on federal COVID relief funds, and a public hearing on the Durham County Transit Plan. Click here for the full agenda.
Finally, the Durham County school board is holding a work session Thursday, May 4, beginning at 5:30. Their agenda will be available at this link.
