This series of posts will be made weekly on Chapelboro to help inform our community about local government meetings. All meeting days, locations and times may be subject to change. Check town, county, and school district websites for additional information.
This week is a lighter one in local government, marked primarily by newly elected board members taking their oaths of office. There are several key agenda items beyond that, though: Orange County Commissioners will hear the latest data on homelessness; the Pittsboro town board will look ahead to next year’s budget talks; and the Durham City Council will examine a property on West Chapel Hill Street downtown, where economic obstacles have stalled a planned redevelopment.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Orange County
Orange County Commissioners meet Monday, December 1, at 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building. Commissioners will receive an annual report from the Orange County Partnership to End Homelessness and assign each other to county boards and commissions for the coming year. Get the full agenda at this link.
The Carrboro Town Council has an organizational meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, to swear in newly-elected council members, recognize outgoing member Randee Haven-O’Donnell, elect a new Mayor Pro Tempore, and dole out committee assignments for the coming year. Click here for the full agenda.
The Chapel Hill-Carrboro school board meets at 6 p.m. Thursday, December 4. Newly elected board members will be sworn in, then the board will tackle an agenda that includes a possible vote to approve new and revised courses for the 2026-27 school year. Get the full agenda at this link.
Chatham and Durham Counties
The Pittsboro Board of Commissioners has a budget scoping session Wednesday, December 3, at 5:30 p.m. in the Chatham County Agriculture & Conference Center. The board will discuss recommended budget items for the upcoming fiscal year, including vehicles and equipment and capital improvement; they’ll also receive a presentation on stormwater infrastructure. Durham County Commissioners have a work session at 9 a.m. Monday, December 1, with a light agenda that includes a vote to elect a new board chair and vice-chair. Get the full agenda at this link.
And the Durham City Council meets twice this week: at 7 p.m. Monday, December 1, and then again at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 4. The council will swear in new members at Monday’s meeting; then on Thursday they’ll receive a quarterly crime report and an update on the (currently paused) redevelopment at 505 W. Chapel Hill Street. Click here for links to both agendas.
