CHAPEL HILL – The Chapel Hill Town Council will discuss a plan to build 140 units of affordable housing on town-owned property when the council meets Monday.

Developers from a nonprofit group specializing in affordable rentals are proposing to partner with the town to build one, two and three bedroom apartments on 10 acres on Legion Road next to the Chapel Hill Cemetery.

The rental units could qualify for low-income tax credits, and would be aimed at seniors and families. However, in order for the developer to apply for the tax credits, the Town Council would have to rezone the property no later than May of 2014.

The council will hear a presentation from the developer at Monday’s work session. That meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. at the Chapel Hill Public Library.
