Chatham County Sheriff Richard Webster will retire after a 23 year tenure with the sheriff’s office; he was elected sheriff in 2002. The Chatham County Board of Commissioners accepted Webster’s resignation Monday.
In his letter to the commissioners, Webster said, “I leave this revered office with sadness, but with eager anticipation of the future ahead. Thank you to all the commissioners for your support and assistance. Best wishes as you face the challenges and joys of serving the citizens of Chatham County.”
The Board of Commissioners will consider appointing Chief Deputy Mike Roberson as the next sheriff at an upcoming meeting.
