A downtown Chapel Hill parking deck is out of commission for at least Wednesday morning.
An alert shared by the town government at 6:20 a.m. said the Wallace Parking Deck at 150 East Rosemary Street is closed to vehicles and visitors due to issues with its fire alarm system. Work to repair the alarms is underway and drivers currently parked in the deck are allowed to leave, but no new drivers will be able to re-enter until the problem is solved.
The Town of Chapel Hill recommended drivers use the 125 East Rosemary Street Deck across the street — which was constructed in recent years by the town as an eventual replacement to the Wallace Deck. Additionally, people can use Chapel Hill’s dedicated parking website to learn about other town-owned parking options.
Permit holders for the Wallace Deck are encouraged to contact the town’s Parking Services to temporarily transfer the permit to the 125 East Rosemary Street deck. Email parking@chapelhillnc.gov or call 919-968-2758 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to speak with Parking Services staff.
Wednesday’s alert said the town will share an update on its website and social media when the Wallace Deck is reopened to visitors.
