Finding a parking spot in Chapel Hill may have gotten more difficult due to a recent decision made by town officials to increase the time limits on downtown parking meters.

The Chapel Hill Town Council voted unanimously during a meeting held last month to extend the maximum time allowance of those meters from two hours to three hours.

Brenda Jones, the local parking superintendent, noted that “visitors to downtown Chapel Hill who would like to stay for an extended period of time can now breathe a sigh of relief.”

This change to the maximum time allowance of parking meters went into effect on April 1, but the standard on-street parking rate of $1.50 per hour remains the same.
