The town of Carrboro will soon update its Bike Plan, which sets out the town’s vision for biking for the next ten years.

A steering committee to assist town staff on writing up a draft of the plan is being formed in the next month. The deadline for the application is Friday, February 15.

Mayor Lydia Lavelle told WCHL’s Aaron Keck they’re looking for a diverse range of bikers from across the town for the steering committee.

The 2009 Bike Plan, available through the town website, outlines the conditions of biking lanes, the future funding available for public bike facilities, town policy on biking, public input and more: the document has seven chapters, Appendixes A through G, a glossary and an executive summary.

Members of the committee for 2019 Bike Plan will likely be appointed on February 19, and then four meetings would take place over the next four or five months, Lavelle said.

The application for the 2019 Bike Plan steering committee can be found on the town’s website. Applicants must attend the February 19 Board of Aldermen meeting at 7 p.m.
