Earth Day is this Friday, April 22. Multiple celebrations in the greater Chapel Hill community will be held this weekend to commemorate the annual event. Hosted by local organizations and governments, these events will feature activities promoting environmental awareness, education and activism.
Here are some of the events happening in Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Durham and Pittsboro to celebrate Earth Day 2022.
Carrboro
Friday, April 22, head to Carrboro Town Commons from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for an Earth Day celebration, featuring food, demonstrations, information, and a children’s parade at 6! Get more info on the town’s website, CarrboroNC.gov.
Saturday, April 23, Carrboro will be hosting a clean-up event for all ages, Keep Carrboro Beautiful Volunteer Day, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Registration is required. Click here to register.
Chapel Hill
Saturday, April 23, Triangle Families Explore is hosting an Earth Day Festival all morning long at Honeysuckle Tea House. Activities on the agenda include live music, interactive programs, and more. Click here for the full lineup.
Saturday, April 23, Kidzu Children’s Museum is hosting a Renewable Energy Day, in partnership with the NC Science Festival. Participants will learn about solar power, water turbines and more through hands-on activities. Registration is required. Click here to register.
Durham
Thursday, April 21, the Piedmont Wildlife Center is hosting an Earth Day Open House from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. In partnership with the NC Science Festival, the open house will give participants an opportunity to meet owls, hawks, reptiles, and more wildlife. Click here for more information.
Sunday, April 24, head to Durham Central Park on Foster Street from noon to 5 pm for the city of Durham’s Earth Day Festival, featuring music, food, and information from eco-friendly businesses and organizations. An Earth Day Parade will also begin at 2:30 p.m. Click here for more information.
Pittsboro
Saturday, April 30, the Chatham County Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting their Earth Day Celebration from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Southwest District Park, located at 15124 NC-902, Bear Creek.
