****UPDATE: The possibility of severe weather has caused the first Movies Under the Stars of the summer to be postponed. No date was immediately announced as a make-up date.****
Chapel Hill’s annual Movies Under the Stars series begins Thursday, which will put on outdoor showings of family-friendly movies throughout the summer.
Executive Director of Community Arts and Culture for Chapel Hill Susan Brown says attendees of the beloved summer tradition can expect some changes this year.
“We got together and started kicking around some ideas, and we realized that the Wallace deck is fun, but it’s hot as blazes up there,” says Brown.
This led to the decision to move this year’s Movies Under the Stars to the more scenic McCorkle Place, located on UNC’s Campus.
“What if it was somewhere maybe that had some shade, some softscaping, so we got together with the Carolina Union Activities Board, and we’re going to show the movies at McCorkle Place this year,” says Brown.
This years Movies Under the Stars will feature screenings of Frozen, School of Rock and a special Spanish language showing of Coco with English subtitles.
A full list of showtimes is available at downtownchapelhill.com/movies.
