Orange County voters selected Sally Greene and Earl McKee to seats on the Board of County Commissioners in the primary election on Tuesday night.

Greene and McKee, both Democrats, will be the only candidates on the ballot this fall with no Republicans filed to run for the seats.

Greene, the former Chapel Hill Town Councilmember, was elected to serve in the at-large seat being vacated by Barry Jacobs, who decided against running for another term on the board after serving for two decades.

Green defeated two Orange County attorneys, Brian Crawford and Noah Oswald, by receiving nearly 61 percent of Tuesday’s vote.

McKee was the incumbent running for re-election to the District 2 seat on the commissioners, which represents northern Orange County. He was challenged by Tommy McNeill, but McKee won the contest with nearly 82 percent of the vote.

Former Chapel Hill – Carrboro Schools Board of Education member Jamezetta Bedford is replacing another former school board member Mia Burroughs, who chose not to seek re-election to the District 1 seat representing southern Orange County.
