Tuesday is Election Day in primary races across North Carolina. In some Orange County elections, the Democratic primaries serve as the ultimate election as no Republican candidates filed to run.

The race for Orange County Commissioner from District one, representing the southern portion of the county, concluded with the closing of the filing period. Former Chapel Hill – Carrboro City Schools Board of Education member Jamezetta Bedford was the only candidate who filed to replace another former school board member in Mia Burroughs, who chose not to seek re-election.

Voters will be selecting a new at-large county commissioner after Barry Jacobs opted against running for the seat he has held for two decades. The at-large candidates are former Chapel Hill Town Council member Sally Greene and two Orange County attorneys – Brian Crawford and Noah Oswald. District two voters in northern Orange County will also be choosing a commissioner between the incumbent Earl McKee and challenger Tommy McNeill. Those commissioner contests along with the races for clerk of court, sheriff and the Orange County Schools Board of Education will all be decided in the primary.

All of Orange County is also now included in North Carolina’s Fourth Congressional District, which has Democratic and Libertarian primaries on the ballot Tuesday.

Polls opened across North Carolina at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday and will close at 7:30 p.m. Voters in line when polls close are still eligible to vote. Voters must go to their precinct location to vote on Election Day. More information regarding voting locations and sample ballots can be found here.
