The Orange County Board of Elections dismissed an election protest filed by District Judge candidate Erika Bales on Thursday.

The board was considering whether to determine further action regarding the protest filed by Bales on February 27. The protest was in regard to the discovery that Bales had been incorrectly verified by the Orange County Board of Elections and State Board of Elections as a Democratic candidate despite being registered as unaffiliated.

Discovery of Bales’ registration was reported on February 14, one day after early voting in the primary elections had begun. Hathaway Pendergrass ultimately won the election with Bales finishing in second place.

A separate election protest had been filed regarding the county Board of Elections’ handling of the discovery of Bales’ ineligibility. The board also dismissed that protest.

Bales said to Chapelboro following the hearing the board’s actions were along the lines of what she expected. She did not indicate whether she will take further action moving forward.
