GoTriangle will host its last open house on November 19 to collect public comments on the light rail and highlight changes brought to the project so far.

The event, originally scheduled for earlier this week, was delayed because of the issues surrounding the water main break. The location and time will remain 5 to 7 p.m. at Extraordinary Ventures on S. Elliot Road in Chapel Hill.

Changes to the Durham-Orange Light Rail project were laid out before the Orange County Board of County Commissioners on November 1 in a quarterly update meeting.

Interim project director John Tallmadge spoke about the project’s finances, proposed engineering changes and its timeline moving forward.

According to Tallmadge, those changes include revising the tracks over New Hope Creek into a one-lane bridge in order to cut costs and mitigate the impact on the local environment. Another change will make station platforms shorter, cutting costs without impacting train efficiency.

The Durham-Orange Light Rail project ends its public input period at the end of November. The public can submit comments before then at lightrailonline.com, or at the November 19 open house.

The more than 17 mile light rail line is projected to cost $3.3 billion when financing is added on to the $2.4 billion capital cost.
