Durham Police are investigating a shooting that injured one person along U.S. Highway 15-501 near West Cornwallis Road on Thursday afternoon.
Police turned the south-bound side of the popular road, near the Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard split, into one lane for the investigation.
A tweet from the Durham Police Department at 4:30 p.m. said one adult male was taken to the hospital with “serious injuries” from the incident.
DPD officers are investigating a shooting on 15-501 South between Cornwallis and Durham-CH Blvd split. An adult male has been taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The highway is down to one lane at this time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible

WRAL reports as of 5 p.m., one south-bound lane was expected to be closed for several hours. Police encouraged drivers to avoid U.S. 15-501 if possible, with nearby roads expected to see increased congestion as a result too.
