An Orange County woman has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting death of her husband last year.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office announced 58-year-old Teresa Mosser turned herself in on Thursday on first-degree murder charges after her husband, James Charles Mosser, was shot and killed in 2018.

Mosser called 911 on April 25, 2018, reporting that she shot at her husband on Eno Cemetary Road in Cedar Grove but did not know if she hit him, according to law enforcement. She placed the call from another room at the residence where she ran after firing the gun. Mosser told responding deputies that she fired the gun in self-defense.

Deputies had responded to another domestic call at the residence a month prior, according to the sheriff’s office, but the situation was verbal only.

After an investigation — which included a crime scene reenactment — authorities sought a warrant for first-degree murder on Wednesday. Mosser turned herself in on Thursday.

Mosser was released from custody on a $50,000 secured bond and made an initial appearance in court. She is scheduled to next appear in court on September 23.

Authorities are encouraging anyone who is experiencing or knows someone who is experiencing domestic violence to contact the Compass Center for Women and Families at (919) 929-7122 or the sheriff’s office crisis unit at (919) 245-2900.
