Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a single vehicle crash which occurred near Mebane on Friday morning. According to a release from the office, deputies responded to a call of a vehicle crashing into a ditch near the intersection of Mill Creek Road and Doe Run Road. The caller reportedly described hearing gunshots immediately after the crash.

Deputies say after they arrived on the scene, several people were present — including occupants from a second vehicle not involved in the crash. The sheriff’s office said the occupants of the two vehicles knew each other and all had different explanations for what happened.

No injuries were reported from the crash, though the passenger of the crashed vehicle reportedly suffered several graze wounds from gunfire. Deputies say they found several firearms on scene and that the wrecked vehicles had bullet holes in it.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Sergeant Goodwin at 919-245-2918.
