One day after a Hillsborough Police officer was injured from being dragged on the ground while trying to arrest a larceny suspect, authorities found the suspect and took him into custody.

A release from the Hillsborough Police Department on Thursday said Frederick Pullen Jr. of Morrisville was arrested at his residence without incident at 1:30 p.m. He faces a litany of charges stemming from Wednesday’s incident at the Sheetz gas station at 1990 N.C. 86 South, including felony assault on a law enforcement office and felony resisting a public officer resulting in serious injury.

The police department issued an earlier alert to the public on Wednesday detailing the assault. It said Hillsborough Police officers arrived to the Sheetz gas station around 2:17 p.m. to investigate a larceny — and while there, officers were told another larceny began to happen. Police approached the man, who the department said “physically assaulted the responding officer inside the store” before fleeing outside to his vehicle. A Hillsborough Police officer then “attempted to remove the suspect from the vehicle,” said Wednesday’s release, but the suspect put the vehicle in drive and dragged the officer on the ground.

The officer suffered “minor injuries” from the incident and was transported to UNC Hospitals’ Hillsborough campus, according to the police department.

Pullen also faces several misdemeanor charges stemming from the incident: two misdemeanor counts of injury to personal property, misdemeanor larceny, misdemeanor motor vehicle violation, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Beyond those charges, Hillsborough Police said Pullen had six active warrants out for his arrest. He is being held in the Orange County Detention Center without bond.

In its release on Thursday, the Hillsborough Police Department credited North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement, the Durham County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation for their assistance in identifying and arresting Pullen.
