The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrests of three people in connection with a series of thefts targeting trailers and campers in the southeastern part of the country.
The case originated on December 12, when a victim reported the theft of an enclosed trailer from a storage lot in Chatham County. Surveillance footage identified two people of interest, and investigators ultimately located the trailer in Raleigh and returned it. Two Fuquay-Varina residents, Stephen Blake Allen and Bridgitte Elaine Moore, were charged with the theft of the trailer.
Three similar thefts of campers were reported at storage lots in Chatham County between December 20 and January 3. Investigators recovered the campers at separate locations in Sanford and Raeford before arresting Raeford resident Nicholas Benjamin Bowers. Bowers is being charged in all three thefts.
Police departments from Fuquay-Varina and Southern Pines, as well as sheriff’s offices in Wake, Johnston, Lee and Hoke counties assisted in the investigations.
“Teamwork and partnerships with these sheriffs’ offices and police departments were essential to solving these cases,” said Chatham County Sheriff Mike Roberson. “Thanks to their professionalism and dedication, stolen property has been returned to its rightful owners, and those responsible will be held accountable.”
Investigators say they believe there may still be victims unaware that their property has been stolen from the lots and encourage anyone who stores property at the facilities to verify that their belongings are secure. Anyone who believes their property may be missing or has information related to the thefts is encouraged to call the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office at 919-542-2911.
