The Chapel Hill Police Department reports a total of six successful and attempted vehicle break-ins recently happened at a Franklin Street residence.

Reports filed on the department’s website show several residents at a duplex in the 700 block of East Franklin Street had their vehicles broken into between the night of Sunday August 9 and Monday August 10. Four of the victims said their vehicles were broken into, some of which were locked, with one reporting an estimated $1,600 worth of jewelry, a UNC class ring and sunglasses being stolen. Two other victims listed at the same residence reported their cars were broken into, but with no signs of forcible entry.

This incident is the latest of recent break-ins around the Chapel Hill community. The previous week, the police department investigated the breaking and entering of vehicles in the Estes Hills neighborhood after ten reports were made by community members.

Following the incident, the Chapel Hill Police shared posts on their social media reminding community members to lock their vehicles and keep valuables either out of sight or out of their cars.
