The Chapel Hill Police Department is investigating multiple reports of breaking and entering to vehicles in the Estes Hills neighborhood.

Ten reports were made to the police department on Tuesday, August 4. All incidents related to the breaking-and-entering investigation happened between August 3-4 and in the neighborhood just off North Estes Drive between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and East Franklin Street.

According to Chapel Hill Police, in each report, the cars rummaged through were left unlocked. Police say it appears the suspect or suspects looked through the vehicles for valuables, including the glove box. In multiple cases, loose change was taken while other items were left behind.

In one report, the victim states their unlocked car was searched through while two other locked vehicles on the property were left untouched.

Chapel Hill Police are offering up several safety tips to deter criminals and help keep valuables safe. The advice includes locking car doors and rolling up windows, hiding valuable items out of sight and parking in well-lit areas.

According to the release, officers checked with neighbors who had video doorbells to see if any suspects could be identified. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who may have information related to these car break-ins is encouraged to call the Chapel Hill Police Department at 919-968-2760.
