UNC officials provided the campus community further updates as it prepares for the start of a fall semester now a few weeks away.
On its Carolina Together website detailing campus operations amid the COVID-19 pandemic, UNC said it will be distributing Carolina Together Care Kits to students and employees upon their return to campus. Each kit will contain masks, hand sanitizer and other health and safety items. Details on how to receive these kits will come soon.
The university also clarified that students will be charged the same tuition and mandatory fees whether participating in classes in-person, through remote instruction, or a combination of both.
“Student fees support a range of student services, including Campus Health, Counseling & Psychological Services, and student organizations among many others,” said a release from UNC. “These student service areas will continue to provide an array of services in both in-person and remote formats to support students regardless of their mode of instruction.”
In addition, UNC provided updates on parking and transportation for the fall semester during the coronavirus pandemic.
Virtual permits are being introduced for the fall semester and will be available for all students and employees. Visit the UNC Transportation and Parking website for more information.
Along with new virtual permit options, eligible commuters will receive a reduced-cost permit that reflects teleworking/hybrid class schedules adjusted for fall semester. Semester permits and increased daily parking options will also be available for commuters.
The university also emphasized its six feet physical distancing guidelines. All students, staff, faculty and visitors have a responsibility to remain at least six feet apart while on campus.
More updates will be made available in the coming days regarding public health and hospital capacity, the availability of rapid testing and contact tracing, and the consideration of external factors that may influence campus operations.
