This weekend’s UNC and Duke men’s basketball matchup has many North Carolinians excited — even ones in aquariums.
The SEA LIFE Charlotte aquarium in Concord, N.C. got one of its creatures into the blue blood rivalry action recently by having its stingray “pick” between the Tar Heels and Blue Devils ahead of Saturday’s game. The unnamed southern stingray was tempted by fish attached to poles with logos of both teams, and he made an enthusiastic choice that Carolina fans will enjoy.
SEA LIFE Charlotte, which is located in the Concord Mills mall, says the stingray is believed to be at least two years old and was born at the aquarium. The business’ “Stingray Bay” area features both southern and Atlantic stingrays, both of which are native to North Carolina in the Atlantic Ocean and brackish waters.
The on-court action Saturday will be taking place a few hours east of where SEA LIFE’s stingray made its prediction. UNC will travel to Durham and Duke’s Cameron Indoor Stadium for the Tar Heels’ final regular season game in 2024. Carolina is looking to lock up the top seed in next week’s ACC Tournament after clinching a share of the conference’s regular season title on Tuesday by completing a season sweep of Duke. Tip-off will be at 6:30 p.m., and more information on how to tune into the game can be found here.
