Chapel Hill-based Southern Season was sold at auction on Friday.

The gourmet-food retailer went into Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this summer.

The Triangle Business Journal is reporting that Delaware-based kitchen retailer Calvert Retail put in the winning bid in bankruptcy court of $3.5 million.

TBJ is reporting that Calvert – which has a location in Asheville, according to its website – does not plan to make any immediate changes to the flagship Chapel Hill location.

But changes are coming elsewhere. Southern Season recently closed two large stores in Virginia and South Carolina but had maintained smaller locations across the region would stay open.

Calvert is planning to close those smaller stores in Asheville, Charleston and Raleigh, according to TBJ.

Southern Season has been in business since the flagship store was opened in 1975.
