The owners of the iconic Chapel Hill breakfast restaurant Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen say they are hoping to reopen the restaurant after a fire last Friday.
“Temporarily closed due to an electrical fire,” the sign outside the drivethru read on Monday.
Chapel Hill Fire crews were dispatched to the restaurant on East Franklin Street Friday afternoon after smoke was reported to be coming from the structure.
Utility crews were in the area and reported the smoke after power was restored to the area following severe weather last Thursday.
An update was also posted on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
“As a result of the quick and professional response of our town’s resources the damage was limited and contained. Sunrise staff has already been working to clean and begin repairs. We will keep our fingers crossed for a return in a couple of weeks.”
Reaction poured in on social media as word spread of the fire at one of the favorite breakfast locations for Chapel Hillians and visitors alike.
