A Chapel-Hill based fitness magazine called Endurance has raised more than $500,000 since May to support local food banks and hunger relief programs.

To do this, Endurance launched a series of virtual fitness challenges in order to help raise funds for local charities addressing the need for food donations during the pandemic.

North Carolina charities involved with this project include: TABLE, Interfaith Council for Social Service, Feeding the Carolinas and Beautiful Together.

Of the funding raised by Endurance‘s initiatives so far, more than $120,000 has gone to programs in North Carolina.

“Our biggest need is for food, and with food drives and donations limited at this time due to the pandemic, donations from these races are critical,” Mike Barrow, Executive Director of Feeding the Carolinas, said. “The best part about the challenges is that it is grassroots, with many people all helping a little, which adds up to a lot.  Such a blessing, and such an impact.”

Each challenge covers a different amount of mileage, with some much longer than others, and allows competitors to choose the way they can cover the distance–whether it be running, walking, biking, swimming or any other method.

To this point, over 26,000 people have combined to cover over 4,000,000 miles in the challenges.
