Carrboro Farmers’ Market will celebrate the bounty of locally-grown tomatoes with its biggest event of the year: Tomato Day.
The annual event will take place on July 13 between 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Carrboro Town Commons to highlight the summer tomato season. The celebration features samples of locally-grown tomatoes, a Carrboro-wide raffle, and limited-edition merchandise with this year’s Tomato Day design.

CFM farmers grow more than 70 types of tomatoes, like Sun Gold, Cherokee Purple, Brandywine, and there will be welcome booths located at Market entrances to provide visitors with an opportunity to learn about local tomatoes and discover their favorites.
Shoppers can also try a variety of Tomato Day specials prepared by food vendors and farmers, like golden tomato soup, local salsa, tomato ricotta herb tarts, tomato basil sauce, and more. Tomato Day zines will be available for visitors in printed and digital formats with information regarding tomato varieties, the local farmers who grow them, tomato specials at local Carrboro businesses, recipes, and more.
This year’s guest chefs are Michelle and Stevie Webb, who co-own The Cheese Shop in downtown Carrboro. Between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m., they will offer samples of local tomatoes and their favorite cheeses and ingredients at the Market gazebo.
Sponsors for the event include Laser Image Printing & Marketing, The Splinter Group, Overture Chapel Hill, and Visit Carrboro. To learn more about Tomato Day and other Carrboro Farmers’ Market events, click here.
