Al’s Pub Shack in Governors Village will be henceforth be known as Al’s Burger Shack.

The restaurant will be closed until July 8 and will reopen with the name of the restaurant that Al and Melody Bowers have made famous in Chapel Hill and the Triangle area.

The Bowers released the following statement on social media on Monday:

First of all, we want to thank everyone, especially our staff who worked tirelessly to get the Pub Shack up and running, and all of the new friends and neighbors we’ve met over the last few months. We were excited to bring the pub experience to Governors Village and worked hard to make our vision a reality. We feel so fortunate to be part of a community that supports local businesses.

At first, a few folks came in to the Pub Shack asking for Burger Shack items; a Bobo Chili Cheeseburger here, a Sally Mack Hot Dog there. We thought it would pass, but the questions just kept coming; “Where are the rosemary fries?” and “Can I order a Buddy Bite Kenny J with sweet potato fries?”

So, we are excited to announce that the Pub Shack will open on July 8th as Al’s Burger Shack.

We’ll still have a full bar, the comfy, lively atmosphere and table service, but you’ll be able to get all of your favorites from the Al’s Burger Shack menu.

We are so grateful to our staff, our founders, our new friends and neighbors and we can’t wait for the Burger Shack transition! Good is still good y’all!

Gratefully,
Al and Mel

Al’s Pub Shack opened in Governors Village in April as a new concept from the Bowers. The pub-style restaurant was a significant shift from the standing room-only and outdoor patio atmosphere that Al’s Burger Shack has been known for.

Al’s famous burgers are nationally known and have earned positive reviews in the New York Times and were voted the #1 burger in the country by TripAdvisor.

The new Burger Shack is located at 50050 Governor’s Village in Chapel Hill.
