UNC epidemiologist and senior scientist Nabarun Dasgupta joins 97.9 The Hill’s Brighton McConnell on Friday, May 16. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control released its 2024 overdose death data this week, which saw a relatively steep drop nationally. Dasgupta shares why that doesn’t surprise him considering the underlying data and how much work remains to continue overdose prevention efforts. He also shares how his work fits into the response efforts — as he helps lead the Opioid Data Lab as part of UNC’s Injury Prevention Research Center. Dasgupta also shares the importance of the local and state government responses to the opioid epidemic, especially as the federal government faces upheaval, and where North Carolina fits into the national picture in its strategies.
