Election Day 2023 is in the books, as local residents went to the polls and sent a message about their wishes for the future of Chapel Hill-Carrboro.

When all was said and done, Chapel Hillians gave a big vote of confidence to the current Town Council, largely backing the candidates who promised to stay the course on growth and development.

Meanwhile in Carrboro, voters endorsed the “Better Together” slate of Town Council candidates, and Barbara Foushee (running unopposed) became the first Black woman elected as Carrboro mayor.

Later in the evening, Aaron spoke with Chapel Hill mayor-elect Jess Anderson, who promised to seek unity after a contentious campaign. Listen: 

 

Carrboro Town Council member-elect Catherine Fray also spoke with Aaron as the “Better Together” slate celebrated their victory.

 

And back in Chapel Hill, Aaron spoke with a grateful Melissa McCullough, who won a Town Council seat by a relatively comfortable margin in her first time on the ballot.

 

97.9 The Hill’s Aaron Keck and Public Policy Polling director Tom Jensen were on the air all evening, announcing the results as they came in, analyzing the outcome, and chatting with outgoing mayors Pam Hemminger and Damon Seils in addition to the winning candidates.
