Chapel Hill Police have charged 64 year-old Michael Ranes with reckless driving and unsafe movement after he reportedly struck a cyclist with his car at the corner of Columbia and Franklin streets Tuesday afternoon.
Twenty-seven year-old Kayley Lyons was identified as the cyclist. She was taken to the emergency room at UNC Hospitals to be treated for injuries police describe as serious, but not life-threatening.
Investigators determined the cyclist was traveling northbound on South Columbia and the motor vehicle was making a right turn onto East Franklin Street at the time of the collision
