Brenda Thomas and family

Brenda and her husband Terry decided to open their home to foster children, but her history with foster children and special needs children goes way back.  Brenda was a foster child as an infant.  Her son was born with special needs.

Brenda and Terry have fostered 63 children over the past 20 years.  Many of those children have had serious special needs.

Susan Attermier nominated Brenda.  She had this to say:

“Brenda moves heaven and earth to provide whatever those children need to become successful adults. I know her because I have provided physical therapy for two of those children. She provides the love, care and discipline that turn children from a bleak and I mean bleak future to a bright one. Good for them and good for the community!”

Ron Stutts also shared his thoughts:

“This woman is amazing. Superhero.  An angel among us.  How anybody could do this is beyond me.  Imagine fostering 63 kids over a 20-year period, most of whom have really serious special needs.  Hometown Hero is right.  No question. I am never…ever…going to complain about anything that I have to do again.  Not after talking to her.”

Brenda and Terry are still hard at work helping special needs children.  They currently foster two and have adopted three kids with special needs.

You can nominate your own Hometown Hero.  WCHL has honored local members of our community since 2002.
