A UNC first-year student wheelchair user recently found herself stuck on the top floor of her building after the only elevator broke. She’s using her experience to call on UNC for better accessibility for all students.
Raul Reis, dean and professor of the School of Communication at Emerson College, was named dean of the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media. Reis will assume the position July 1.
The Chapel Hill Town Council recently met to discuss the future of the site at 828 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. This site is the current location of the Chapel Hill Police Station, but it is also the location of a coal ash fill. Since the town learned of coal ash existence on the project in 2013, the town council has been discussing the future of the 828 MLK site.
Named for the address, the 203 Project in Carrboro is a project between the town and county to house both government and community services. The project was approved in March 2020 by the county commissioners with the county providing some of the funds for the project and the Town of Carrboro providing the rest. The estimated cost in the two years since has increased with both the county and town needing to invest more funding.
Rise Southern Biscuits & Righteous Chicken is set to open a new location in Chapel Hill on March 19. This location will be located in Eastgate Crossing and will be the eighth location in the Triangle area.
Big changes are happening in the Carrboro arts scene. For the past three years, The ArtsCenter has been planning to move to a new building on Jones Ferry Road. Now, that plan is changing. The ArtsCenter announced it will instead relocate its programming to a building at Roberson Street.
A new resource takes root Wednesday at UNC Libraries: a seed library. The university held a launch party in the Murray-Venable Courtyard outside the Kenan Science Library.
