No. 1 UNC rebounded from its first loss since 2024 with a dominating win against East Carolina in Chapel Hill Saturday afternoon. The Tar Heels scored the game’s first 10 goals on their way to a 23-3 win.
UNC’s fast start included a pair of goals from Eliza Osburn and Addison Pattillo in the first 27 seconds of the game. Osburn and Pattillo would score again in a span of 34 seconds to give Carolina a 4-0 lead after just 1:51 had elapsed off the game clock. Pattillo ensured herself of a hat trick with her third goal at the 10:10 mark, and Chloe Humphrey’s second of the afternoon gave UNC a 10-0 lead after 7:30 of game time. Carolina led 12-2 after the first quarter, 16-2 at halftime and 19-2 after the third quarter.
Humphrey’s five goals and five assists were both team highs. The redshirt sophomore now has 19 goals in her last three games and has scored at least three goals 10 times in 11 games this season. Pattillo, Darcy Felter and Kiley Mottice also finished with hat tricks. UNC’s offensive onslaught saw the Tar Heels double up the Pirates on total shots (36-18) and hold a 30-11 edge in shots on target. Saturday also marked the sixth time this season Carolina has scored at least 20 goals and the fifth time it has held an opponent to three.
UNC is now 10-1 overall this season. The Tar Heels will be back in action Friday at 4 p.m. when they visit No. 20 Virginia in Charlottesville.
