This year’s Festival Latinoamericano, Carrboro Music Festival, and West End Poetry Festival will be happening in August, September, and October, respectively.

Among the largest free music festivals in the state, the 28th annual Carrboro Music Festival will start on Saturday, Sep. 27 with an open mic at Town Commons and culminate the next day with the main event. Over the two days, the festival will feature more than 100 Triangle-area musicians across a variety of genres performing at 20 venues including Cat’s Cradle, the Speakeasy, Lanza’s on West Main, the Drakeford Library Complex, the Carrboro Century Center, the ArtsCenter, and others.

Among the biggest local acts set to perform on Sunday include Honey Magpie, Django Haskins, Jimmy Ray Swagger & the Fussy Easters, The Gone Ghosts, The Pinkerton Raid, the Shoaldiggers and more. The festival will also include music workshops for the public, which will be announced here.

Hosted by El Centro Hispano, the 10th annual Fiestas en la Calle will be on Weaver Street from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24. The event will include music, food, dance, and other cultural presentations for attendees to experience and learn about Latin American culture.

The West End Poetry Festival will take place Thursday, Oct. 16 to Saturday, Oct. 18, and will feature readings, conversations, presentations, and workshops at Steel String Brewery, the Drakeford Library Complex, and the Carrboro Century Center. The culminating event will be an open mic at 8 p.m. that Saturday at Steel String.
