UPDATE: Despite sharing an original goal of re-opening on Saturday, Aug. 16, Guglhupf owner Sean Scott shared a message on the bakery’s Facebook page Friday saying it would be pushed back to Tuesday, Aug. 19. Scott said the delays stemmed from a permitting snag, with inspections not being conducted on the weekend.

The Guglhupf Bake Shop in the Eastgate Crossing shopping center will be reopening to the public Saturday, August 16, according to a post on social media from owner Sean Scott.
The Durham-based bakery’s Chapel Hill location has been closed for more than a month after sustaining flood damage during Tropical Depression Chantal in early July.
“We’re super excited, we can’t wait,” owner Sean Scott said in a Facebook video on Aug. 11. “This past month has sucked, but it’s over. We can’t wait to see you guys Saturday. Bring your friends, eat some tasty treats and let’s get back to normal.”
In the video, Scott also hinted at Trader Joe’s in Eastgate returning to operations on Saturday. The popular supermarket chain’s website still lists the Chapel Hill location as “closed until further notice from weather damage,” and the News & Observer reported a Trader Joe’s representative declined to say whether the store was reopening on Aug. 16.
Guglhupf’s hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Trader Joe’s lists its hours as 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
Another Eastgate Crossing business, Med First Primary & Urgent Care, has announced a temporary location after sustaining flood damage during the storm. Med First will begin operations at 1728 North Fordham Boulevard, Suite 151 in Chapel Hill on August 15. The business has no timetable for a potential return to Eastgate, saying it will be operating out of the new location “until further notice.”
“We appreciate your understanding and patience during this transition and look forward to seeing you at our temporary location,” read a release from the business.
Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported Trader Joe’s as confirmed to reopen on Saturday, Aug. 16. It has since been updated to reflect the uncertainty around when the store will return to normal business.
