The search for an elderly Pittsboro resident is extending into its third day, as the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office continues to ask for the public’s help in finding the missing woman.
A release from the office on Sunday morning said 83-year-old Alice McIlvaine Parsons was reported missing after deputies performed a well-being check on Friday, which came after concerned family members said they had not heard from Parsons since the evening of Thursday, Oct. 17. Deputies checked Parsons’ home at 658 Graycliff Road and found her vehicle gone — and her cell phone was left on the kitchen counter inside the residence.
The sheriff’s office turned to the community to ask for help after canvassing the neighborhood, checking in with known friends and acquaintances, and patrolling the area around Fearrington Village to no avail.
Investigators and family said some of the urgency around locating Parsons is related to her age and condition. While the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office release said no significant cognitive conditions are known, Parsons is described as 5-foot-2 with a frail build and has suffered some episodes of confusion in the past. The elderly resident’s vehicle is a gray 2009 Ford Escape with the license plate XRC-2042.
