Taissa Queiroz, who ESPN rates as a four-star prospect in the recruiting class of 2025, committed to head coach Courtney Banghart and the UNC women’s basketball program on Saturday. According to a report from 247 Sports, Queiroz will enroll early and join the Tar Heels this coming January.

A 6-foot-1 forward originally from Brazil, Queiroz currently attends Cardinal Newman High School in Santa Rosa, CA. UNC was a relatively late arrival to her recruiting battle, only offering her a scholarship on July 26. Less than a month later, Queiroz trimmed her final list of schools down to six, including the Tar Heels. Other notable schools competing for her services included Washington, Gonzaga and Kansas State.

“I committed to North Carolina because I really liked my official visit and how truthful they were with me,” Queiroz told 247 Sports. “I really appreciate that. I saw a lot of things that I really liked. And, head coach Courtney Banghart is a really nice person. I think that she’s going to help me a lot — not just as a basketball player, but also as a woman. From now until when I get there, there will be a lot of differences and I think she’ll help a lot with that. I really trust her and her staff.”

Queiroz is the third prospect in the class of 2025 to commit to the Tar Heels. UNC has already secured pledges from five-star recruits Nyla Brooks and Taliyah Henderson.
