It had been one week since Vance Honeycutt had walked the Diamond Heels off in their super regional opener against West Virginia.
So, of course, that meant he was due for another — this time in the College World Series.
UNC’s star centerfielder smacked a single over the heads of Virginia infielders on Friday afternoon to earn Carolina the 3-2 win in walk-off fashion. The Diamond Heels, whose game opened up the 2024 postseason tournament in Omaha, gives the team an advantage in the double-elimination round. For Honeycutt, it marked his 66 RBI for the season and yet another highlight moment for the project first-round pick.

The Diamond Heels will now play in the winner’s bracket Sunday night against the winner of Tennessee and Florida State, who play at 7 p.m. EDT on Friday.
