The Chatham County Parks and Recreation Department is inviting community members of all ages to the second annual Sidewalk Chalk Festival on Saturday, September 10. The potential make-up date is Sunday, September 11. The festival will take place at 1015 Andrews Store Road in Pittsboro and hopes to help participants “express their creativity by creating a masterpiece.”

“Chatham County Parks and Recreation hosted the inaugural Sidewalk Chalk Festival last year as a part of the Chatham 250 celebration, and we are excited to see it continue this year,” said Tracy Burnett, director of Chatham County Parks and Recreation. “We enjoy having the opportunity to celebrate the art community in Chatham County and bringing people together in this way.”

The Sidewalk Chalk Festival began in 2021 as a way to celebrate art and creativity while also taking precautions due to the pandemic.

Amateur and professional artists alike are invited to attend the 2022 festival. There will be coffee stations and other vendors at the location, The Park at Briar Chapel. Check-in for artists begins at 8:30 a.m., and artists can draw from 9 through 11 a.m. Tabletop drawing is also available. There will be three award categories: Family (group with kids 12 and under), Teen (13-18) and Adult (19+), as well as a “Crowd Pleaser” Award.
