A longtime Chapel Hill tradition is coming back. The UNC men’s basketball team will host an open scrimmage at the Dean Smith Center on Saturday, August 27 at 4 p.m.

The scrimmage was played for many years under head coaches Dean Smith, Bill Guthridge and Matt Doherty, and was known as the “Blue-White Game.” While UNC’s “Late Night” event featured an intra-squad scrimmage under head coach Roy Williams, the Blue-White Game was historically a separate event altogether. Williams ended the event, choosing instead to play a second preseason exhibition game.

Now, the Blue-White Game is returning in conjunction with NIL deals. The players will not wear school logos during the game, which is run by the organization ProCamps. ProCamps has worked with the basketball program in the past and currently runs the Carolina Basketball Fantasy Experience.

Tickets to the game are already on sale and cost $12. You can purchase them here. Tickets are also available for a team autograph session before the game. Those cost $150 and are available here. According to G3 Marketing’s Greg Lazeroff, who is running the game on behalf of ProCamps, a portion of the proceeds will be used to compensate the players, while a separate portion will go toward a charitable organization.

“We identified a sponsorship opportunity with United Healthcare to make the Blue White Scrimmage possible on top of the registration fees and ticket sales,” Lazeroff told Inside Carolina. “And so having a relationship with the student-athletes with our fantasy event, it seemed like a great opportunity and we got the players on board.”

Parking for the event is available in the Manning Lot, Jackson Deck and Cardinal Deck. The game will be taking place just a few hours before the UNC football team’s first game against Florida A&M in Kenan Stadium. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 8:15 p.m.
